The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” (Psalm 32:8)
Ever find yourself wondering if you know God’s will for your life? The gnawing fear that we did not hear Him when He directed or warned us can make life heavy. We don’t want to waste the only life we have, living outside of God’s plan for us. We know that choosing the wrong school, job, or spouse can have painful consequences. Can we know that God is going to guide us?
Yes we can, and this is one more weight God wants to remove from our life. The above promise is just one of many that tell us our Father is eager to give us all the guidance we need to do all He wants us to do. We need only to look back over our life to see that He has already been faithful to that promise in an amazing and sometimes mysterious way.
Our worry over divine guidance can be lessened a great deal by remembering a few things. First, God does not have a specific will for every decision we make. That’s because He is big enough to accomplish His will for our life through a myriad of options we may choose. God’s path for us is usually a lot wider than we think. This is why the Scriptures are so general and yet so sufficient for our guidance. Second, if our desires do not violate Scripture, then God most likely is leading us through them, not against them. Finally, we must remember that God’s sovereignty is bigger than our circumstances, dullness, or desires, and He can lead us in spite of them. Just ask a Joseph, Moses, or Jonah about that.
I trust the grace of God has helped you shed a few spiritual pounds this week.
